Advantage After Hours Whiskey Review
Advantage After Hours
What happens when four guys with vastly different tastes and experiences with whiskey hold a whiskey tasting? You get a well-rounded whiskey review from four different perspectives. That’s what Advantage After Hours sets out to accomplish.
While most whiskey review sites cater to the hardcore whiskey drinker, our reviews feature a high-proof junkie, an up-and-comer, a traditionalist, and a guy who hates whiskey. We also feature special guests ranging from coworkers to customers, touring musicians to tradesmen, influencers to unfluencers, and more.
Episode 7
Sticking with Texas whiskey and celebrity bourbons, we taste and review Bingham’s Bourbon from Grammy and Oscar award winning singer/actor Ryan Bingham, who plays the singing cowboy Walker on the hit show Yellowstone. Can a 2-year-old undisclosed mashbill from an undisclosed distiller bottled at 80 proof touting a gimmicky finishing technique satisfy the guys?

Episode 6
Nate Bellon, the bass player from Chicago-based blues rock band, The Empty Pockets, joins us to taste Batch 1 bourbon from Fierce Whiskers Distillery. In addition to tasting the brand new 4-year bourbon from Austin, Texas, we talk with Nate about his musical background and influences, his favorite venues to play, the experience of recording an album at Abbey Road Studios, playing the National Anthem at Dodger Stadium, and more.

Episode 5
In an effort to appease Zach (a tequila guy who hates whiskey) the guys take a crack at a tequila-finished whiskey. All Secrets Known is a limited release from FEW Spirits in Evanston, Ill. in collaboration with Alice in Chains. The 101-proof bourbon was finished for 6 months in ex-tequila barrels.

Episode 4
After Rocco and Zach talked about flavored whiskies in the previous episode, we decided to try one. We took our taste buds for a ride with Experimental Batch 034 from 2023 craft distiller of the year, Chattanooga Whiskey. This Pecan Infused bourbon liqueur is a 4- to 7-year blend of 10 unique high-malt bourbon mash bills with roasted pecans, vanilla beans, cacao nibs, coconut, orange peel, and dark Belgian candi syrup added to it.

Episode 3
After a couple of high proof whiskies, the guys dialed it back with a 100-proofer for Episode 3. The first true finished whiskey tasted as part of Advantage After Hours, Yellowstone Toasted Bourbon from Limestone Branch Distillery was a welcome pour, even for our special guest, Rocco, who pretty much only drinks flavored whiskey.

Episode 2
Sticking with the high-proof theme, we try our first single barrel. This one is a Buzzard’s Roost bourbon store pick from Malloy’s Finest – a fantastic liquor store in Glen Ellyn, Ill. Buzzard’s Roost is distilled by MGP, but while this single barrel shared the same 36% high-rye bourbon mashbill as our previous tasting, it spent additional time in a secondary white oak “wave stave” barrel.

Episode 1
We introduce Advantage After Hours to the whiskey review world with a tasting of Smoke Wagon Uncut the Younger from Nevada H&C Distilling Co. Advantage After Hours was born (at least partially) from a mission to make Zach, who hates whiskey, taste more of it. Naturally, we started with a high proofer clocking in at 117.5 proof. Spoiler alert – all Zach tasted was fire. But what did the other guys think?
